E. Steve Ferguson, Sr., age 82, of Monroe, passed away on August 8, 2017 at home with his beloved wife and family by his side. He was born in Union County on July 18, 1935, son of the late Hoy A. Ferguson and Thelma Eury Ferguson. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Suggs and Sue Williams and a great-granddaughter, Gracie Ferguson.

E. Steve Ferguson, Sr., age 82, of Monroe, passed away on August 8, 2017 at home with his beloved wife and family by his side. He was born in Union County on July 18, 1935, son of the late Hoy A. Ferguson and Thelma Eury Ferguson. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Suggs and Sue Williams and a great-granddaughter, Gracie Ferguson.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol H. Ferguson; his children, Cathy Helms Watkins of Indian Trail, NC., E. Steve Ferguson, Jr. (Keicia) of Monroe, NC and Jeff Ferguson (Linda) of Wingate, NC; his brother, Gene Ferguson (Merle); his sister, Brenda Simpson; brother-in-law, Bobby Suggs; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ferguson attended Wingate College and was a graduate of King's College, was an active member of his community and church. He served in the USAF for six years, was a member of Monroe Jaycees and the Optimist Club, served as a member of the first board for Hospice of Union County and was a charter member of the Monroe Kiwanis Club. Mr. Ferguson loved baseball and coached farm league, Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He retired from Perfect Fit Industries after 45 years. Cooking was his favorite activity. He enjoyed preparing Boston Butts for his church family and fudge for his family and friends at Christmas.
Affectionately known as Granddaddy by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all their friends, he would do anything to make someone smile. He loved with his whole heart and had a laugh you could never forget. He will be truly be missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10:00am until 11:15am at Wingate United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 11:30am. Memorial contributions may be given to Wingate United Methodist Church, Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region or Hospice of Union County.
