Wallace Quay Hasty, age 80, of Union County, NC, passed away on September 12, 2017 after several months of declining health. Wallace was born in Union County on December 19, 1936, son of the late KG and Ora Smith Hasty. He was also preceded in death by his son Timothy Hasty; grandson Austin Hall; brothers Alvin Hasty, Calvin Hasty and sister Bernice Hasty Baucom. Wallace Quay Hasty, age 80, of Union County, NC, passed away on September 12, 2017 after several months of declining health. Wallace was born in Union County on December 19, 1936, son of the late KG and Ora Smith Hasty. He was also preceded in death by his son Timothy Hasty; grandson Austin Hall; brothers Alvin Hasty, Calvin Hasty and sister Bernice Hasty Baucom. Wallace is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Edwards Hasty and children William Chris Hasty and wife Susan, Mark A. Hasty and wife Cindy, Melissa H Hall and husband Mike. He was the proud grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of five. His two surviving siblings, brother Herbert Hasty and sister Geraldine Hasty Williams.
Wallace graduated from Wingate High School and received a BA from SPCC. He was married to Martha Edwards Hasty on December 15, 1956. Wallace was a Tool & Die Maker at Hasty's Tools and ACME Nameplate.
After graduating from high school, he joined the US Marine Corps and served 7 ½ years with an Honorable Discharge. He also served his country with the US Army Reserves, and the Air National Guard. After his retirement from the Military, he volunteered with Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League #914, Disabled American Veterans #95, Veterans of Foreign War #5464, American Legion #27 and National Rifle Association, Endowment Member.
Wallace had a passion for collecting soda can tabs for the benefit of Ronald McDonald House and participated yearly in the Toys for Tots. He also enjoyed playing pinochle and cribbage at the Ellen Fitzgerald Center.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Wingate Baptist Church, with the funeral service following at 11:00am. Burial will be at Austin Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Marshville, NC, with full military honors.
